Description

1871-S $10 VF25 PCGS. CAC. The San Francisco Mint struck 928,000 double eagles during 1871, but coined just 16,500 ten dollar pieces. None were saved by collectors until decades later, and none are certified as Mint State by either leading service. In fact, the 1871-S is about as rare as the 1871-CC, but trades at a much lower value. An apricot-gold example with traces of luster but no relevant abrasions. Housed in a green label holder.
Ex: Orlando FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2011), lot 4859, which realized $1,380.(Registry values: N1793)
