Description
1871-S XF 45 NGC. An extremely rare S-mint ten with a mintage of only 16,500 pieces. Not only is this an absolute rarity, but it is an important condition rarity as well that is considered "prohibitively rare above VF" by Breen. Bright with some luster showing, the surfaces are only marred by two marks on the obverse, one on the cheek of Liberty and the other in the left obverse field. The mintmark is extremely weak on the reverse and with only a casual glance the coin could easily be mistaken for a Philadelphia product. Trends $4,100 in XF 40, $8,250 in AU 50.
