Rare Choice AU 1871-S Eagle
1871-S AU 55 PCGS. An elusive S-mint ten, both in total numbers and from a condition standpoint, with no uncirculated survivors reported from a mintage of only 16,500 pieces. The surfaces here are bright and reasonably sharp, with a great deal of luster still showing. A few scattered marks are found in the fields, most notably a small cut to the right of the date. On the reverse, the tiny mintmark is a trifle blunt and could easily be missed under casual inspection. Undoubtedly one of the finest known '71-S eagles. Population: 1 in 55, none finer (12/97).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264Y, PCGS# 8662, GSID# 9474)
