Not Sold Description
1871-S Eagle, AU 58
1871-S AU 58 NGC. An extremely rare S-mint ten with a mintage of only 16,500 pieces. Not only is this an absolute rarity, but it is an important condition rarity as well that is considered "prohibitively rare above VF" by Breen. The coin has bright, satiny fields, and the striking details are generally well brought up. As is usual for the '71-S, the mintmark is microscopically small, probably as a result of an employee using a punch for a quarter eagle by mistake. Population: 3 in 58, none finer by either service (11/98).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264Y, PCGS# 8662, GSID# 9474)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 16.72 grams
AGW: 0.48375oz
Mintage: 16,500
