1872-S Liberty Eagle, AU55
Low-Mintage S-Mint Issue
1872-S $10 AU55 NGC. The San Francisco Mint struck a
minuscule mintage of 17,300 Liberty eagles in 1872. As might be
expected, the issue is elusive in all grades today and Mint State
examples are prime condition rarities. This attractive Choice AU
specimen shows only light wear on the well-detailed design elements
and much interior detail remains intact. The lightly abraded
orange-gold surfaces retain traces of original mint luster in
sheltered areas. Census: 36 in 55 (1 in 55+★ ), 12 finer
