Description

Minimally Worn 1872-S Eagle Rarity

1872-S $10 AU 55 NGC. Although the 1872-S is typically encountered at the VF and XF grade levels, the present lot offers an important Choice About Uncirculated survivor. With an original mintage of a mere 17,300 pieces and widespread circulation, it is little wonder that this issue is similar in rarity to the other eagles of the 1866-1874 era. Although somewhat scuffy, the surfaces reveal remnants of a prooflike finish at certain angles. The color is deep and orange-gold in shade and all features are fully defined. Population: 5 in 55, only 3 finer (7/00).
