Description

1873-CC Eagle, VF35
Relatively Unabraded Coin

1873-CC $10 VF35 NGC. Variety 2-B, a rare variety showing the CC mintmark beneath the feather tip, rather than the usually seen Variety 2-A with the mintmark left of the tip. Only 4,543 pieces were struck, and this Choice VF coin is a typical grade for the few dozen survivors. The strike is a bit soft on the high points of each side; even so, most of the obverse stars, save for three, show some degree of detail in their radials. The deep orange-gold coloration complements surfaces that show relatively few abrasions and the expected quotient of grade-consistent wear. It has been many years since we offered an example in this grade; alert bidders should be prepared.
