Description
1873-CC Eagle, VF35
Relatively Unabraded for the Grade
Challenging Low-Mintage Issue
1873-CC $10 VF35 NGC. Winter 2-B. This is the rarer of two
varieties, showing the CC mintmark positioned beneath the feather
tip, rather than the usually seen Winter 2-A with the mintmark left
of the tip. Only 4,543 pieces were struck and this Choice VF coin
is an ideal collector grade among the few dozen survivors. The
strike is a bit soft on the high points of each side -- even so,
most of the obverse stars, save for three, show some degree of
detail in their radials. The deep orange-gold coloration
complements surfaces that reveal relatively few abrasions amid the
expected quotient of grade-consistent wear. It has been many years
since we offered an example in this grade (this very coin). Alert
bidders should be prepared.Ex: The Pennsylvania Common Man Collection of Liberty $10 Eagles / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2016), lot 5708.(Registry values: N2998)
