Striking Choice XF 1873-CC Eagle

1873-CC $10 XF45 NGC. Though most denominations saw mintages increase from the initial year of Carson City's operation to 1873, the eagle reversed that trend, with a substantial decline in production to just 4,543 pieces. Despite the low mintage, which might hint at lack of demand, the coins circulated heavily, and the grading curve caps out at AU55, with tiny supplies at that level.
The issue as a whole borders on rare in an absolute sense, and a Choice XF coin such as the present piece ranks in the upper echelon of survivors. Its orange-inflected yellow-gold surfaces retain substantial luster and show few marks overall. Though a touch softly strong on the modestly worn devices, it offers powerful eye appeal. Census: 9 in 45, 9 finer (5/08).
