Description

1873-S Ten Dollar, XF45
Scarce in All Grades

1873-S $10 XF45 PCGS. The 1873-S is the only relatively accessible ten dollar issue for the year. It is scarce in its own right with just 12,000 coins struck, but compare that to the 800 pieces manufactured at the Philadelphia Mint or the 4,543 coins struck at Carson City. To be sure, not many more than 100 or so examples of the 1873-S survive, and the average certified grade for the issue falls between XF40 and XF45. This Choice XF representative displays reddish accents amid orange-gold color. Glints of luster glow around the moderately worn but well-detailed devices. Myriad abrasions appear over each side.
