Description

Seldom Offered 1873-S Ten in AU

1873-S $10 AU53 NGC. Production of Eagles at the San Francisco Mint amounted to just 12,000 coins in 1873, only one of which has been certified in Mint State by the two major grading services (10/01). Even accurately graded XF representatives are rare, and this issue is equally as elusive as the other S-mint Liberty Eagles from the 1866-1874 era. This AU representative is richly colored in copper-gold shades with ample evidence of a frosty finish. The devices are generally well struck, and the number of scattered abrasions is consistent with a circulated gold coin from the frontier era.
