    Description

    1874-S Eagle, AU53
    Rare Low-Mintage Issue

1874-S $10 AU53 NGC. A meager original mintage of 10,000 coins and its status as a highly-circulated West Coast denomination ensure the rarity of this desirable ten dollar example. A small number are known in AU grades, including this lovely piece, but none have been graded in Mint State by either service. Light orange-gold and peach toning variations are mingled across both sides of the coin, which presents an attractive, well-balanced appearance. Census: 11 in 53, 14 finer (2/14).
From the Collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2659, PCGS# 8671)
