Description

AU 1875-CC Eagle, Rare and Lightly Abraded

1875-CC $10 AU50 NGC. The 1875-CC eagle boasts a low mintage of 7,715 pieces and is regarded as one of the rarest issues in the Carson City series. Doug Winter estimates a surviving population of 65-75 examples in all grades, with only 6-7 specimens in AU. A slightly larger population is suggested by the population data, where NGC and PCGS have combined to certify 10 examples in AU50, with 28 finer (7/10), but these numbers are probably inflated by resubmissions.
The present coin is a pleasing AU example, with only slight wear showing on the handsome surfaces. The 1875-CC is known as a strike rarity, but this specimen shows much original detail remaining in Liberty's curls and the eagle's feathers. The surfaces are light yellow-gold, with green patina around the devices. The scattering of minor handling marks on both sides is consistent with the grade, as is a reverse rim bruise at 3 o'clock.(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 265B, PCGS# 8673)

HA is a traditional auction house, they set up their auctions slightly different from typical domain auctions. This works well, it seems to be a good mix of old age (live bidding in a prestigious hotel) and new age (online bidding).
