Exceptional 1875-CC Eagle, AU53, Rare So Fine

1875-CC $10 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1-A, attributed by a lump on the right arm of the Y in LIBERTY. While most Carson City collectors are aware of the absolute rarity of the 1875-CC, few ever get the chance to appreciate the condition scarcity of this key issue. Extremely Fine specimens are about the best quality that are usually seen. About Uncirculated coins are quite scarce, and only three Mint State examples are certified.
Rich orange-gold patina is imbued with occasional splashes of lavender, and remnants of yellow-green mint luster can still be seen in the recessed areas. While the 1875-CC is the most poorly struck eagle from the Carson City Mint, this particular specimen is fairly well defined, including the star centers and most of the eagle's plumage. Minor softness is apparent on the typically weak curls around the hair and ear of Liberty and on the eagle's left (facing) leg. A few minute contact marks are undistracting. An exceptional example of this elusive issue. Population: 10 in 53, 6 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N7079)
