Extremely Scarce 1875-CC AU 50 Eagle
1875-CC $10 AU 50 PCGS. An elusive Carson City eagle, one of just 7,715 pieces struck, with moderately worn (XF 40 or lower) survivors being twice as likely to make an appearance than those coins grading XF 45 or better. Very few AU examples are known and there are no Mint State pieces even rumored to exist. Like most 1875-CCs seen, the central devices and the smallish mintmark are weakly defined, yet the peripheries are basically sharp. The fields still retain ample evidence of semi-prooflikeness, which also tends to intensify the severity of the numerous small to mid-sized abrasions present on each side. Probably just below a Condition Census ranking for a '75-CC ten dollar, but an important and desirable coin for the serious collector of Carson City gold. Population: 4 in 50, 5 finer (6/00).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265B, PCGS# 8673, GSID# 9481)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
