Description

1876-CC Eagle, AU50
Scarce and Important Carson City Issue

1876-CC $10 AU50 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-A. The 1876-CC eagle had a paltry mintage of just 4,696 pieces, all of which was dumped into circulation where it remained, for the most part, until the coins were well-worn or completely lost. The typical survivor of this issue, therefore, grades in the VF to XF range; AU coins are decidedly rare, and none are known to survive in any condition that can be labeled as Mint State by the grading services. The present AU coin, with remnants of semiprooflike mirroring in the fields and original orange-gold color, is undeniably of great importance to the quality-conscious branch mint gold collector. Slight friction leaves much detail to be appreciated, which complements traces of luster in the border recesses. Another chance to bid on such an appealing example of this date may be long in coming. Population: 11 in 50, 9 finer (10/14).(Registry values: N7079)
