Description
Low-Mintage 1876-CC Eagle, AU53
1876-CC $10 AU53 NGC. In their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins, Garrett and Guth highlight multiple positives of the 1876-CC eagle; it has a better-than-average survival rate, which they speculate is due to the American Centennial, and "The overall quality of the 1876-CC issue is slightly nicer than in previous years," though they caution about striking weakness. On the downside, the small mintage under 5,000 pieces means that even AU coins are condition rarities. This AU53 example has luminous yellow-gold fields which show a layer of dusky patina. Lightly worn with scattered minor digs that have more impact on the technical grade than the eye appeal. Census: 7 in 53, 11 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265D, PCGS# 8675, GSID# 9482)
