Description
1876-CC Liberty Eagle, AU53
Elusive Branch Mint Issue
1876-CC $10 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Only 4,696 Liberty
eagles were struck at the Carson City Mint in 1876 and it is
doubtful that even a single specimen was saved for numismatic
purposes. The coins were all released into circulation at the time
of issue and circulated heavily in the regional economy for many
years, making examples scarce-to-rare in all grades. The 1876-CC is
seen most often in the VF-XF grade range today, and the issue is
legitimately rare at the AU53 level. No Mint State examples have
been certified at either of the leading grading services
(12/17).The present coin is a pleasing AU53 specimen, with some light wear on the well-detailed design elements and lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces that retain traces of original mint luster. A few hints of prooflike reflectivity are evident in sheltered areas. The elusive nature of the 1876-CC is well-known to series specialists and we expect intense competition when this lot is called. Population: 7 in 53, 4 finer (12/17).(Registry values: N7079)
