Description
1876-CC Eagle, AU55
Scarce Centennial Carson City Issue
Only 4,696 Pieces Struck
1876-CC $10 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. A meager mintage of 4,696
pieces makes the 1876-CC rare enough, although its Centennial year
status encouraged a few pieces to be put aside and preserved for
numismatic purposes. PCGS has never certified a Mint State example
of this issue, nor has NGC. This Choice AU NGC example is among a
dozen at this level, with three in AU58 finer (9/24). Even, rich
yellow-gold color appears over both sides. The fields still show
mild reflectivity, as one might expect from such a low mintage. The
strike is a bit soft in the centers, but the surfaces are only
lightly marked overall. The reverse appears a notch sharper than
the obverse, with excellent feather detail on the eagle and only a
bit of wear at the arrow fletchings. Light abrasions exist on both
the obverse and the reverse, yet it will be challenging to locate a
finer example of this Carson City date, which is in demand in all
grades. Census: 12 in 55, 3 finer (9/24).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265D, PCGS# 8675, Greysheet# 9482)
