Description

1876-S Ten Dollar, AU55
Only One Certified Finer

1876-S $10 AU55 NGC. All three mints then in operation struck eagles in 1876, but only in small quantities. The combined production of the denomination at Philadelphia, Carson City, and San Francisco barely exceeded 10,000 pieces. About half of these coins were from San Francisco, but little of the mintage of 5,000 pieces was saved, and no examples have been certified in Mint State by either NGC or PCGS. NGC has certified one coin as AU58, and next in line are four AU55 pieces, one of which is the present example. This well-struck Choice AU piece has bright surfaces with numerous small abrasions scattered over each side, as one would expect.(Registry values: N4719)
