Not Sold Description
1877 $10 AU 58 NGC. Previously offered in our October, 2000 Long Beach Sale, lot 7713, where it was described as, " A low mintage (817 business strikes) issue and a classic numismatic rarity, the 1877 is the most elusive P-mint eagle after only the 1873 and the 1875. Most extant example grade either VF or XF and, to date, neither NGC nor PCGS have certified a single Mint State survivor (7/00). This coin was probably produced with a prooflike finish, evidence of which can still be seen in the protected areas around the devices. The overall appearance is one of reddish-gold patina and there are no distractions that are inconsistent with grade. A pair of diagonal abrasions in the left obverse field between star 4 and Liberty's nose are the only noteworthy pedigree markers. We anticipate spirited bidding from advanced gold specialists when this specimen crosses the auction block."
