Description

1877-CC Eagle, AU 55, Lightly Cleaned

1877-CC AU 50 Cleaned. An exceptionally rare Coronet eagle with an original mintage of only 3,332 pieces. Usually, when an example can be found, it is low grade and softly struck. This piece is significantly finer than the average example known of this rare issue, and there is only slight softness of details noted on the hair curls and eagle's feathers. The surfaces show medium orange-gold color throughout with traces of mint frost remaining in the more protected areas of the design. Each side is hairlined from having been lightly cleaned at one time, but the typical heavy and numerous abrasions are missing from this piece. This is an important opportunity for the Carson City specialist to add to or upgrade this rare issue.
