    Description

    1877-S Ten Dollar, AU58
    Much Luster Remains

1877-S $10 AU58 NGC. Only 17,000 gold eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1877, of which most survivors show light to moderate wear. Near-Mint examples such as the present are rare, and Mint State coins are prohibitively so. This piece displays lustrous orange-gold fields with a brush of friction over the high points of the sharply struck design elements. Moderate surface chatter accompanies the grade. Census: 9 in 58, 3 finer (1/18).(Registry values: N2998)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265H, PCGS# 8679)

    Weight: 16.72 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
