Description
Choice XF 1877-S Ten-Dollar
1877-S XF 45 PCGS. A very rare and underappreciated issue, the 1877-S is of comparable scarcity to the 1876-S, but perhaps not quite as well known. At the XF 45 level, this piece is far above average for the issue with the average grade recorded by Akers as VF 25. This is an obviously original coin whose surfaces show deep reddish color (more so on the reverse) with accents of dull gray patina on the highpoints of the design elements. Well struck on the obverse but showing considerable softness on the eagle's plumage on the reverse. Minimally abraded.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265H, PCGS# 8679, GSID# 9485)
