Description
1878 Eagle, MS64
Low-Mintage Condition Rarity
1878 $10 MS64 PCGS. An important condition rarity in the
Liberty eagle series from a mintage of 73,780 coins, this 1878
ranks near the top of the Condition Census. Less than 10 near-Gem
specimens are PCGS-certified, and the number of different pieces is
smaller yet. This beauty has brilliant light yellow surfaces with
frosty luster and only a few trivial copper toning spots on each
side. Minuscule marks in the fields prevent a higher grade.
Splashes of violet-blue toning appear below the bust and along part
of the reverse border. Population: 9 in 64, 1 finer
(3/13).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265J, PCGS# 8680, Greysheet# 9399)
Weight: 16.72 grams
