1878-S $10 AU50 NGC. The 1878-S completed a lengthy run of low mintage, rare date San Francisco eagles that began in 1857. During the same era, huge numbers of twenty dollar pieces were coined annually at the same facility, since that denomination was more convenient for accounting large sums.
