Description

1879-O Ten Dollar, XF45
Semireflective New Orleans Rarity

1879-O $10 XF45 NGC. Variety 1. The popularity of the Liberty ten dollar series has taken off recently with the 2017 publication of A Guide Book of Gold Eagle Coins and our recent sale of the incredible Admiral Collection. The 1879-O represents the resumption of coining operations at the New Orleans Mint after a nearly two-decades-long hiatus. The facility started off slow, limiting production to 1,500 pieces, and the survival rate is estimated at 5%. The devices are generally strong, if lightly worn, over deep orange-gold surfaces that maintain a hint of field reflectivity. Myriad tiny marks do not detract. Census: 11 in 45, 31 finer (3/18).(Registry values: N2998)
