Description

Important 1879-O Eagle Rarity

1879-O XF 40 Cleaned. The first O-mint eagle since the onset of the Civil War and an elusive issue in all grades. The yellow-gold surfaces exhibit numerous abrasions indicative of a large gold coin. In addition, numerous hairlines attest to the harsh cleaning that removed any traces of natural color that this coin may have retained after its stint in circulation. Nonetheless, this survivor from an original delivery of only 1,500 pieces should still elicit strong bids when it crosses the auction block.
