Low Mintage 1879-O Rarity, PCGS AU50
1879-O $10 AU50 PCGS. Although the New Orleans Mint resumed coinage in 1879 principally for Morgan dollar production, the facility did strike 1,500 eagles that year. The second lowest mintage among O-mint eagles, the 1879-O is equal in rarity to the 1859-O and the lower mintage 1883-O. This issue is typically represented by VF examples and pieces that even approach the AU level are prized commodities. The reddish-gold surfaces display scattered abrasions from circulation, but only a trace of wear is present and the coin has nice eye appeal for the grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265P, PCGS# 8685, GSID# 9489)
