    1879-S Liberty Eagle, MS64+
    Second-Finest Certified, Ex: Bass

    1879-S $10 MS64+ NGC. This attractive Choice Mint State 1879-S eagle is among the few finest survivors, despite the moderate mintage of 224,000 pieces. Most examples apparently circulated to some extent in the regional economy and Mint State coins are elusive today.

    This coin traces its history to the famous Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection, one of the most important gatherings of U.S. gold coins ever assembled. Only one coin has been certified in higher numeric grade, an MS65 piece at PCGS (9/13). The attractive orange-gold surfaces boast a bold strike and only a few minor, scattered marks are evident. Vibrant mint luster adds to the outstanding eye appeal. Census: 1 in 64 (1 in 64+), 0 finer (9/13).
