Description

Splendid 1880-O Eagle, Choice AU

1880-O $10 AU55 NGC. This coin was made in the year that noted collector Charles I. Bushnell died. New Orleans' eagle mintage in 1880 of 9,000 coins was the lowest of the four mints producing the denomination, although the 1880-CC was close at 11,190 pieces. The 1880-O is only the second O-mint With Motto eagle issue, after the 1879-O, which is extremely rare due to the tiny mintage of 1,500 coins. This Choice AU 1880-O boasts splendid luster over orange-gold surfaces that display only light field chatter but no mentionable abrasions. Minor strike weakness is confined to the hair over Liberty's ear. Census: 33 in 55, 40 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N1793)
