Description

1880-O Liberty Ten, AU58
Low Mintage, Rare in Mint State

1880-O $10 AU58 NGC. Winter-1. The tiny mintage of 9,200 pieces was struck from a single marriage, distinguished by die doubling on the left-side stars. The New Orleans Mint re-opened in 1879 with the primary mission of producing silver dollars, and perhaps struck the small number of eagles as a matter of local pride. The present straw-gold near-Mint example is minimally abraded and well struck. Luster outlines all design elements. Census: 40 in 58 (2 in 58+), 12 finer (3/25).
