A Rarity in High Grade
1880-O $10 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. PCGS has graded only six
Mint State 1880-O eagles, and high-end AU coins are nearly as rare.
Only 9,200 examples of this issue were struck, a sharp spike over
the 1,500 New Orleans gold eagles struck in 1879, but not enough to
ensure a supply of high-grade coins today. This near-Mint example
displays sharp detail and bright yellow-gold surfaces. Moderate
abrasions are as expected for the issue and grade. Some prooflike
reflectivity remains in the fields. Population: 15 in 58, 6 finer
