Description

1880-O Ten Dollar, AU58
Sharp and Semireflective

1880-O $10 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. The mintmark is high relative to the fletching, and the left-hand stars are doubled. After resuming coining operations in 1879, the New Orleans Mint took a big stride in eagle production in 1880. The issue still claims a low mintage of 9,200 coins, but survivors are among the more collectible O-mint tens from this period. Lavender hues grace semireflective yellow-gold surfaces. The reverse features a couple of colorful alloy spots. Minimal blending is present over pinpoint-sharp motifs, and the only mentionable mark occurs in the upper-left obverse field. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 15 in 58, 6 finer (1/18).
