Description

1880-O Ten Dollar, AU58
Glowing Luster Remains

1880-O $10 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. Of the 9,200 ten dollar gold coins manufactured at the New Orleans facility in 1880, Doug Winter believes 250 to 300 survive. Most of those are in XF condition, and only seven to nine pieces would grade finer than AU58 in his estimation. Glowing luster around the rims and devices illuminates yellow-gold surfaces. Definition is better than expected for an O-mint product. Myriad abrasions on each side, including a couple of prominent marks below the bust. Population: 21 in 58 (1 in 58+), 11 finer (10/20).(Registry values: N1793)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265U, PCGS# 8689, Greysheet# 9492)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
