Description

Prized MS64 1880-S Eagle

1880-S $10 MS64 NGC. Tall S. Though more than half a million eagles were struck at San Francisco in 1880, a combination of attrition and indifferent preservation has rendered the issue a condition rarity at the MS64 level, with NGC certifying just two such coins and only one numerically finer (5/10). This is a noteworthy near-Gem, lightly toned over shining wheat-gold surfaces that are partially prooflike on the reverse. Solidly struck on the obverse with only trifling softness noted at the centers of certain obverse stars. An attractive and undoubtedly high-end representative.(Registry values: N4719)
