Description
1881-CC Eagle, MS60
Seldom Seen in Mint State
1881-CC $10 MS60 NGC. Winter 1-A. The 1881-CC mintage was a
scant 24,015 pieces, a tiny fraction of the nearly 4 million eagles
coined at Philadelphia that year. Most '81-CC survivors are in
circulated grades. But the present butter-gold coin is Mint State
and retains substantial luster. Two slender marks near Liberty's
profile determine the grade. The strike is good, though the hair
above the ear is shy of complete definition. Just one die pair is
known for the 1881-CC, and this is a late die state example that
displays cracks through the date and reverse legends. Census: 12 in
60, 32 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265X, PCGS# 8692, Greysheet# 9494)
Weight: 16.72 grams
