Description

1881-CC Ten Dollar, Lustrous MS61
A Rarity in Uncirculated Condition

1881-CC $10 MS61 PCGS. Annual gold eagle coinages at Carson City were little more than token quantities until 1891. In fact, the mintage of the 1881-CC -- 24,015 coins -- was the highest pre-1891 production total of this denomination from the Nevada branch mint. This issue is popular with collectors but it is also scarce in Mint State. Rarely are pieces offered finer than the present. Frosty yellow-gold luster cartwheels around the obverse, illuminating sharp design elements. The reverse is also sharp but shows deeper orange-gold color with a cyan area to the right of the eagle's head, where the remnant of a mint-made grease streak is visible. Population: 23 in 61, 10 finer (9/18).(Registry values: N4719)
