Description

1881-CC Eagle, MS62
Variety 1-A
Only One Finer

1881-CC $10 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The only die variety currently identified for the 1881-CC eagles with a tilted mintmark, the left C higher than the right C, and the second letter below the tip of the arrow feather. We know of only one finer example that appeared in the 1982 Eliasberg Collection sale. That coin was later graded MS63 NGC and regraded MS64 NGC. The present specimen is tied with a few others for the finest that PCGS has certified and it is clearly an important condition census specimen. Both sides show a few scattered marks, none serious, with brilliant yellow luster, the reverse accented with splashes of violet and blue. Population: 9 in 62, 0 finer (3/13).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 265X, PCGS# 8692, Greysheet# 9494)

Weight: 16.72 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
