    Description

1882-O Gold Eagle MS63, Single Finest Graded at NGC

1882-O $10 MS63 PCGS. According to our Permanent Auction Archives, Heritage has not offered an example of the 1882-O gold eagle at or above the Select Mint State grade level within the past 14 years. In fact, the top grade tier of any piece that we have offered during that timeframe has been an MS61 NGC coin that we sold at the February Long Beach show in 2001. That seems understandable, considering that only three pieces have achieved the MS63 rating as of July 2007--two at PCGS and just this one example at NGC. This coin is well struck in the centers, while the obverse peripheral stars are somewhat weak. The obverse fields display a few wispy marks, but significant distractions are not seen on either side. Census: 1 in 63, 0 finer (7/07). (Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2664, PCGS# 8697)

    Weight: 16.72 grams

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
