Description

1883-CC Ten Dollar, AU58
Low-Mintage Carson City Issue

1883-CC $10 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-B. The 1883-CC ten is one of many rare Carson City ten dollar gold issues. The reported mintage is only 12,000 pieces, and perhaps as few as 150 to 200 pieces survive in all grades. Surprisingly, four die pairs exist. Variety 1-B has a level wide mintmark, and diagnostic die lines within the shield. The present near-Mint representative displays ample mint bloom. The green-gold surfaces are refreshingly free from distracting abrasions and traces of prooflikeness exist on both sides. No 1883-CC eagle is graded finer than MS61 by either NGC or PCGS, and this example is much more affordable than the dozen or so Mint State pieces available to collectors. NGC Census: 20 in 58 (2 in 58+), 6 finer (9/22).
