Description

1883-CC Ten Dollar, AU58
Rare So Fine
Reflective Fields Dominate

1883-CC $10 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1883-CC is a challenging date in all grades, but it is particularly scarce in the upper AU range, with Mint State pieces being genuinely rare. The Carson City mint struck only 12,000 gold eagles in 1883, continuing a trend of low annual mintage figures for the denomination at the Nevada branch mint. Most coins were dispersed into circulation, with the few high-grade coins known today surviving merely by chance. The present near-Mint example is sharply detailed and might have garnered a Mint State designation were it not for slight dulling of the reflective fields by minor rub. Each side displays bright yellow-gold patina with ample luster remaining. An old reed mark below the mintmark on the reverse is the only singular abrasion. Population: 15 in 58 (1 in 58+), 4 finer (7/17).(Registry values: N2998)
