Description

1883-CC Ten Dollar, MS61
Coveted Rarity in Mint State

1883-CC $10 MS61 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1883-CC Liberty eagle boasts a mintage of only 12,000 pieces, ensuring the scarcity of survivors today. XF and AU coins are occasionally seen, but Mint State coins are rare. PCGS has seen only seven Mint State submissions, but that number likely includes duplications. Since our Permanent Auction Archives began in 1993, we have handled only three Mint State examples of this issue, the last being an MS60 NGC piece in our September 2009 Long Beach Signature. The present example displays a sharp strike and frosty original luster that yields rich orange-gold and rose hues. Scattered light surface chatter determines the grade. This piece is tied for the finest 1883-CC ten dollar known, and it is a tremendous rarity. Population: 4 in 61, 0 finer (6/22).(Registry values: N4719)
