Description

Rare and Important 1883-O Ten, AU50

1883-O $10 AU50 NGC. The 1883-O ranks among the rarest Liberty Head eagles, with an astonishingly low mintage of just 800 pieces. Only four other tens from the 19th and 20th centuries can claim a mintage below 1,000 coins. Unsurprisingly, the 1883-O seldom appears at auction, and when it does, it is subject to fierce competition from bidders. Heritage has not offered an AU or finer example for over 10 years. This is an important opportunity to acquire a high-end representative.
Captivating semiprooflike reflectivity enhances the yellow-gold surfaces. The strike is a bit weak, most notably on the obverse, and there are a number of light abrasions as consistent with the grade. There are, however, no marks that warrant individual mention. An appealing example of this highly desirable issue. NGC and PCGS combined report just 40 pieces in all grades, some of which are likely multiple submissions of the same coin. Census: 3 in 50, 10 finer (7/09).(Registry values: N4719)
