Remarkable, Fully Struck Gem 1885 Eagle
The Single Finest Certified at PCGS
1885 $10 MS65 PCGS. Any gold specialist or dedicated type
collector will confirm how difficult Liberty Head eagles are to
find in Gem condition--and how beautiful they are when encountered.
The 1885 eagle is hardly a type issue. Like some Saint-Gaudens
double eagles, the 1885 at one point was considered to be very
rare, until the repatriations of some overseas hoards brought the
Mint State populations up a bit. This coin is, nonetheless, the
single finest certified of the issue at PCGS, whose
CoinFacts website rates its rarity at 10.1--the highest level--in
Gem condition. The finest certified at NGC are one MS66 and two
MS65 pieces, which could represent some duplications.This MS65 PCGS example exhibits thick, rich mint luster flowing from pristine orange-gold surfaces. The strike is full throughout, and there are simply no mentionable impairments. A glorious coin destined for a world-class set.(Registry values: N1)
