Description
1886-S Eagle, MS64
A Challenging Acquisition in High Grade
1886-S $10 MS64 PCGS. The 1886-S is significantly more
available than its Philadelphia counterpart, but it is not a common
date in MS64. Gems are rare and the small number that exist trace
their origin to the Saddle Ridge Hoard. The finest 1886-S eagles to
appear on the market are from a small group of PCGS MS64+ pieces.
This example softly and beautifully lustrous, yielding peach-gold
and greenish hues on the obverse with deeper lilac and orange-gold
reverse coloration. The strike is sharp. Population: 48 in 64 (8 in
64+), 4 finer (1/20).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2007), lot 3199, where it realized $5,463.
