The Sole Finest Certified
1888-S $10 MS65 NGC. Mint State examples of this San
Francisco issue exist mainly in MS63 and lower grades. Choice
examples are rarely seen. We have handled an MS64 example on only
nine occasions. The present Gem example is the sole finest known of
the 1888-S eagle. It has never before been offered at public
auction, and here represents the ultimate opportunity for the
advanced San Francisco gold collector. Sharp motifs complement
vibrant, frosty mint luster in rich orange-gold and peach-yellow
hues. A few trivial marks in the fields prevent a finer
designation, but the overall eye appeal is fully within the Gem
