Difficult Near-Gem 1889-S Ten Dollar
1889-S $10 MS64 PCGS. Brilliant and lustrous, with most design features showing bold definition. A dab of struck-in grease is noted at the junction of the eagle's left wing (viewer's right) and the shield, a feature that will serve to identify this specimen at any point in the future. The cheek and obverse field have a few wispy marks. Although the 1889-S is available in bagmarked Uncirculated grades, near-Gems are important condition rarities. Population: 14 in 64, 1 finer (6/09).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2005), lot 7927.(Registry values: N2998)
