Description

1890-CC Eagle, MS62
Seldom Finer, Partially Prooflike

1890-CC $10 MS62★ NGC. Variety 1-A. Partially prooflike throughout both sides, this gleaming 1890-CC is a memorable example of the small Carson City mintage. Just 17,500 eagles were struck. The Garrett and Guth reference notes "A small percentage of 1890-CC eagles are prooflike." This coin is more prooflike than not, with attractive rich-gold color and a notably sharp strike. Light abrasions scattered across the reflective surfaces, and account for the assigned grade. The issue is seldom seen any finer than the MS62 level, and this coin is the sole recipient of NGC's prized Star designation for the grade. Census: 40 in 62 (2 in 62+, 1 in 62 ), 8 finer (6/23).
