Description

1891-CC/CC Ten Dollar Liberty, MS63
FS-501, Rare Variety at This Grade or Finer

1891-CC/CC $10 FS-501 MS63 NGC. Winter 4-C. The mintmark's second C is clearly repunched, with remnants of a previous punch wide right. The Cherrypickers' FS-501 variety is confirmed by a spike beneath Liberty's chin near the neck and by a curving die crack from star 1 to star 5. This Select Mint State example offers sharply struck motifs surrounded by minimally abraded and partially reflective fields. While only slightly scarce at the MS63 grade, the repunched mintmark variety is notably rare at the MS63 level and virtually unavailable any finer. NGC Census (for the variety): 11 in 63 (1 in 63+), 1 finer (5/25).
